1968-1970, Belgium – Our family lived in Belgium for about 3 years during my elementary school years.
Mid 1970s, USA – Traveled for 3 summers with my family. My mom (the benefactor) drove us in our green 1971 Dodge van twice from Texas up the west coast into Canada and once to the east coast and into Canada. We camped in national parks and KOAs, and each kid had responsibility for certain tasks – pitching tent, cooking dinner, packing the van, etc.
1974, Bahamas – Friends took me to the Bahamas from Miami on their 42’ Hatteras. Had to stay on top to avoid chow-chow.
1976, France – Spent the summer between 7th and 8th grade in France with a French family. Learned French almost fluently, but it’s since disappeared from lack of use.
1983, Rome – Spent fall semester studying at Loyola of Chicago in Rome. Traveled all over Europe with our Eurail passes, staying in youth hostels, train stations, and generally bumming around.
1985, Pacific – Spent summer after college graduation traveling through Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Hitch-hiked from Sydney to the Great Barrier Reef with a big Aggie thumb.
1992-1995, Lived in Prague, Czech Republic – Traveled to France, England, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Switzerland, Scotland, Ireland, and Greece. Incredible trips off the coast of Turkey and in the Costa Brava of Spain.
2004, Mexico – Visited my father-in-law with my wife and kids in central Mexico.
2006, France and Italy – With my wife and kids. Drove through beautiful southern France and spent a few relaxing days on Lake Como with my college roommate and his family.
2007, Disney World/Animal Kingdom – That counts, doesn’t it?
