I’m a fifth-generation Houstonian, who grew up taking wonderful family vacations in the U.S., and even a few trips to the beautiful beaches of Mexico.
A few years after graduating from college, I met Stephen. While we were dating, he worked on a project in Europe that required him to be there over the holidays. Before he left, he pulled out a map of the entire continent of Europe and asked, “Where would you like to meet me for Thanksgiving?” We have been traveling together ever since.
Our biggest adventure was to purchase one-way tickets for our honeymoon, and move to the Czech Republic one week after our wedding. After spending two fabulous weeks in Ireland and Scotland, we settled into a flat in Prague, and lived in the storybook surroundings of old town Europe. We both worked, but had three years of the best weekends and vacations you could ever imagine. By plane, train, bus, car, and boat we saw most of Europe. We lived in Prague during the peaceful separation of Czechoslovakia, and visited Moscow shortly after the historic coup attempt in 1993.
We continue to travel with our three children, who have run from dawn till dusk through Disney World, been snowed-in while skiing in New Mexico, and climbed to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
My travels have created memories that will forever remain in my heart and mind, just waiting for that special story, sight, or smell to replay them. Much of what I know about the world, beauty, tolerance, and humanity, I’ve learned through travel. I hope to continue on this path, making new memories and learning more about the world around me.
